Carl was born in 1937 in Amsterdam the Netherlands. He explores several techniques in his paintings. The wax method is based on ancient recipes and has a slightly raised texture. His relief compositions are built up of thick layers of paint and, sometimes, objects: then planed down in places to expose the first layers as well as the last.

In his sculptures he makes use of earth, wind and fire; he explores the balance between painted stones, minerals wood, metals and diverse mobile elements. The paintings and sculptures of Carl de Wit are included in private and municipal collections in Holland, Scandinavia, Germany, Suriname and America.

Carl de Wit passed away in his home in Amsterdam on 01-02-2021.
